[su_dropcap]A[/su_dropcap]delegation of the Southern Transitional Council, the political movement representing south Yemen, visited Brussels during 13-14/1/12/2018. The delegation, headed by Ahmed Omar Ben Farid – representative of the Council in EU – held meetings with official of EU countries to discuss recent developments of the political process in Yemen.
Commenting on this visit, Ben Farid said: “Our goal is clear. We hope for an inclusive political solution through negotiations. As I said in my meetings with European officials, we welcome all efforts, including efforts of Stockholm consultations, if it seeks to end the crisis. We should concentrate on how to apply them. we saw before that Al-Houthis and Hady’s government were not ready to commit themselves with signed agreements. To enforce any political bargain, there should be real representation for all major active parties in Yemen. Unfortunately, the southern voice, a major component, was excluded from the current political solution. The council is eager to bridge this gap and play a constructive role in the political process to guarantee sustainable results on the security, governmental and economic levels. These results should be accepted by all active parties on the ground. The Southern Transitooal Council is a fact and southern people expectations can never be ignored. Our people should have the right to determine their future through democratic means as a condition for any peace agreement. War in Yemen will never have a real solution unless the southern cause is solved”.
