Al-Khubbji and Al-Naqueeb Meet the Russian Ambassador to Yemen

[su_dropcap]D[/su_dropcap]r, Nasser Al-Khubbji, member of the southern transitional council’s presidency and head of negotiation team, and Dr. Aidarous Al-Naqueeb, chairman of foreign affairs department of the southern transitional council, met Mr. Vladimir Dadushkin , the Russian ambassador to Yemen, with attendance of Mr. Alexey Dobrinin the Russian attaché in the embassy. The meeting discussed several issues relevant to the Yemeni crisis and its consequences on the two peoples of the north and south in addition to the southern cause and how to solve it.
The Russian ambassador appreciated the visit indicating that the Russian vision is based on understanding citizens’ suffering because of war and seeks to find a way to end the war and move to political settlement. He also asserted that the southern cause should be a major part of the general framework of any upcoming dialogues and the south should participate in any consultations or dialogues concerning the political settlement.
Representatives of the council, on the other hand, appreciated the meeting referring to deep historic southern – Russian relations. They asserted that the council represents the southern people’ expectations to overcome the consequences of 1994 and 2015 wars. They also indicated that the southern cause is the natural result of the failure of Yemeni union that was based on emotions, elusions and hastiness. This led the union to turn into a war in 1994 and then an occupation of the south.
They indicated that the two-states solution according to 1990 borders represents a joint interest of the two peoples in the north and south in addition to regional and international interests. It is also a basic condition for security and stability of the region.
They asserted that any solution of the Yemeni crisis that doesn’t consider the southern cause will fail and any political settlement without a fair solution of the southern cause or without proper representation of the south will be rejected by the southern people according to international laws and conventions.
Both parties agreed to continue meetings on all possible levels during the upcoming stage.
