British Parliament Members Assert the Importance of Southern Participation in Peace Process

[su_label type=”info”]SMA News – London – Exclusive[/su_label][su_spacer size=”10″][su_dropcap]B[/su_dropcap]ritish parliament members asserted the importance of southern participation, represented by the Southern Transitional Council, in negotiations of solving Yemeni crisis.
This was during a special session about Yemen held in the British House of Commons, discussing the Yemeni crisis and the role of British government in solving it.
The session aimed to provide the government with parliament recommendations concerning the Yemeni crisis according to UK foreign policy agenda.
During the session, attended by Minister of State for Middle East Affairs, Sir Andrew Morison, and broadcasted by BBC, Mike Gibs indicated that the situation in Yemen is too complicated to be described a conflict between the legitimacy and Al-Houthis. Gibs reminded parliament members with the fact that till 1990 there were two states who merged into one union. He also added that when talking about peace negotiations to resolve the crisis, we should reconsider if Hady’s government has the legitimacy it claims and the effects of that on peace process. Gibs asserted the importance of southern participation, through their representative, the Southern Transitional Council, in the solution.
Fabian Hamilton, a member of the Labor Party, and Minister of State for Middle East Affairs, Sir Andrew Morison, of the Conservative Party, supported Gibs’ point of view. British parliament members asserted the importance of listening to the southern voice through involving the south in peace process.
