Al-Mahra Youth Unity Association holds training course on empowering women in peace building and conflict resolution

Al-Mahra Youth Unity Association held, on Sunday, a training course on empowering the role of women in peace building and conflict resolution, with funding from the German Berghof Organization in partnership with the Forum for Political Development.
At the inauguration event, which was attended by the Assistant Undersecretary for Women Affairs, Ms. Khadija Mohammad Bakrit, the Deputy Director General of the Office of Social Affairs and Labor, Mr. Salem Sweilem, the Director of the Women’s Development Office, Ms. Lubna Kalashat, and the Coordinator of the Local Governance and Inclusive Peace Building Project, Mr. Samed Raafit, the Assistant Undersecretary Bakrit indicated that women are more affected by conflict, it has many tasks in addition to the task of education since the child’s inception, and it must be a partner in peace building and conflict resolution.
Bakrit emphasized that the leadership of the local authority in the governorate supports and encourages such activities that contribute in creating awareness and community and human interaction that reinforce the concepts and principles of true peace and help society moving towards resolving and managing its daily disputes in a peaceful and civilized manner.
The Deputy Director General of Social Affairs and Labor in the Governorate, Mr. Salem Sweilem, expressed his thanks to the German Berghof Organization and Al-Mahra Youth Unity Association for holding this course, which targets 20 trainees from various women in the governorate for a period of 4 days, expressing the support of the Social Affairs and Labor Office for all activities that develop the capabilities of Young people and striving for their development.
Sweilem said that women are the foundation and pillar of society, and upon it lies the task of education and consolidating principles in the child since growing up, the mother, sister, teacher and educator .. thanking the leadership of the local authority in the governorate represented by Mr. Mohammad Ali Yasser for his support to the civil society organizations.
For his part, the Executive Director of Al-Mahra Youth Unity Association, Mr. Amin Mohammad bin Essam, drew attention to the importance of enhancing the participation and building of women’s capacities in peace processes in order to enable them to communicate with civil society to contribute to resolving conflicts by providing participants with new skills to enhance their role in spreading the culture of peace and coexistence to preserve rights and protection in society.
For his part, the coordinator of the project to strengthen local governance and building comprehensive peace, Samed Raafit, explained that the Berghof organization is about to establish many activities in support of comprehensive peace processes in coordination with the leadership of the local authority in Al-Mahra and the Office of Social Affairs and Labor.
