The Cultural Department of the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Southern Transitional Council (STC), held, on Thursday, in the capital Aden, an extended meeting of the local authorities, public and community corporations, concerned with the protection of monuments in Aden the capital, under the slogan “Together we protect the monuments and antiquities of the capital Aden,” with the participation of Mr. Fadl Al-Jaadi, Deputy Secretary-General of the Presidency The Transitional Council, and Eng. Nizar Haitham, the member of the Presidency of STC, Head of the Executive Authority for the Transitional Council in Aden the Capital.
Several parties participated in the meeting, representing the specialized authorities concerned with dealing with antiquities and monuments, including the Antiquities and Tourism Authority and the National Commission for Education, Culture and Science (UNESCO), representatives of the air and sea navigation from the airport and sea port of Aden, as well as representatives of security, legal and judicial sectors, and from organizations interested in monuments and antiquities, in addition to officials in the local authority, and a number of specialists in antiquities, intellectuals, media professionals, civil society activists, and other bodies and personalities interested in this topic.
The meeting discussed several axes related to dealing with preserving antiquities and monuments, and the role of the competent authorities in this regard, as the participants reviewed the most prominent obstacles facing relevant bodies and institutions in this field, and the reasons that hinder the implementation of their work, in addition to the requirements for antiquities protection, and the proposed solutions in this context.
In conclusion, it was agreed to hold another meeting soon, in which the outcomes of this meeting and the mechanism for its implementation on the ground would be elaborated.
