General Directorate for Foreign Affairs Holds Periodic Meeting Chaired by Al-Ghaithi

Mr. Mohammed Al-Ghaithi, Head of the General Directorate for Foreign Affairs (GDFA) of the Southern Transitional Council (STC), chaired on Sunday, via video conference, the periodic meeting of the GDFA, in the presence of his Deputy director, Mr. Anis Al-Sharafi.

At the beginning of the meeting, Mr. Al-Gaithi conveyed the greetings of President Aidarous Qassem Al -Zubaidi, President of the STC, Supreme Commander of the Southern Armed Forces, referring to his directives to advance mechanisms of the external political work of the STC, and to redouble diplomatic efforts to keep pace with the internal and external developments.

In the meeting, which was attended by the advisory team of the GDFA, heads of departments, officials, representatives and directors of its offices abroad, Mr. Al-Ghaithi reviewed the latest developments in the country and the entire region at all political, military, security and economic levels, affirming that the STC is proceeding according to deliberate steps to ensure fulfilling the supreme goals for which the STC has been established, pointing out the encountered challenges that the STC has gone through and successfully overcome, and ways that can contribute to solving the current challenges.

Mr. Al-Ghaithi touched on the international endeavours led by the UN special envoy to reach an agreement on the extension and expansion of the truce, and gave a brief explanation about the peace opportunities, the future of the comprehensive political process, and the position of the STC on various related issues, highlighting the support of the STC for a comprehensive peace that guarantees the southerners’ self-determination right to decide their political future and achieve legitimate aspirations of restoring their identity and state.

The director of the GDFA spoke at the meeting on the political turns and stages that the STC has gone through since the signing of the Riyadh Agreement, leading to the Riyadh consultations sponsored by the General Secretariat of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, from which a new political leadership emerged, in which the STC participates as a major party in accordance with the announcement of transferring the full legal authority.

The meeting, too, discussed the strategic plan of the GDFA to face the current challenges, cope up with the rapid regional and international developments, and the importance of taking the advantage of expertise and energies to embody a role model of institutional work, and to expand the map of the external representation of the STC.

Mr. Al-Ghaithi lauded the undertaken efforts by all, in particular the deputy director of the GDFA, to develop the administrative and diplomatic work and raise the capabilities of GDFA’s employees, and the submitted achievement reports by the advisory team, heads of departments and representatives of the GDFA abroad.
