Fighting escalated in Khartoum after the end of the ceasefire

Residents of the Sudanese capital said fighting intensified in several areas of Khartoum on Sunday, the day after a Saudi-US-brokered ceasefire between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces expired.

The ceasefire led to a slight lull in the fighting and limited access for humanitarian aid, but, like other previous ceasefire declarations, it was marred by several violations.

On Friday, talks aimed at extending the ceasefire collapsed.
