UAE finances the first phase of Hassan Dam at a cost of $78 million

The Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Fisheries, Major General Salem Al-Soqtari, stressed the importance of Wadi Hassan strategic dam project, which is being constructed in light of the first phase works, at a cost of $78 million from Abu Dhabi Fund for Development in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

During his meeting with the head of the Canadian company executing the Hassan Dam project, Eng. Mahmoud Awhaj, Al-Soqtari said that the ministry’s leadership attaches great importance to Hassan Dam project, as it is a strategic project that will feed more than 14,000 hectares of agricultural land in the Abyan Delta.

He revealed that the level of seasonal runoff of water in the valley reaches 40 million cubic meters, and he expects that the dam’s stock, after the completion of the first phase of the project, will reach 19.5 million cubic meters, or 50% of the seasonal water level.

He pointed out that the extensions of the project include land and concrete barriers and an asphalt road extending from the main line to the project site, with a length of 7.5 km.

The Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Fisheries instructed the irrigation sector and the competent authorities to overcome all the difficulties necessary for the success of the project within the specified time of about a year and according to the terms of the agreement concluded between the two parties.

He called on the local authorities, security authorities, and citizens benefiting from the project and residents of the targeted sites to cooperate in facilitating the tasks of the company executing the vital project.

Minister Al-Soqtari expressed his thanks and appreciation to the brothers in the United Arab Emirates for their support in various fields.
