Governor of Aden discusses with UNESCO rehabilitation of historic houses in the city’s districts

Ahmed Hamid Lamlas, Governor of the capital, Aden, discussed during his meeting with Nuno Oliveira, Project Director of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, UNESCO, the mechanism for rehabilitating 100 historic houses in all the directorates of the capital, and the Arwa Basira cinema building.
The governor stressed the importance of the historical buildings and landmarks in the capital, Aden, and the necessity of preserving them with their distinctive architectural style of unique solar stone, appreciating the efforts and role of the ancient cultural organization in preserving human heritage.
He expressed the local authority’s readiness to work to overcome any difficulties facing UNESCO projects in the capital, Aden, with the aim of facilitating the progress of its work.
He called for describing projects as they really are, whether it is painting, rehabilitation, emergency intervention, or strategic, noting that transparency serves the authority, the supporting party, and the citizen.
In turn, Nuno Oliveira acknowledged that the organization’s previous intervention, which targeted the exterior facades of buildings, was not satisfactory, pledging to conduct a strategic intervention that includes the exterior and interior facades of buildings, indicating that the organization will work to rehabilitate 100 homes as a first stage.
