Lamlas signs agreement for a project to develop sewage network in 3 districts in the capital, Aden

Mr. Ahmed Lamlas, Governor of the capital, Aden, on Thursday, signed with Mohammed Nasri, Head of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the agreement for the sanitation infrastructure project funded by the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development.

The cost of the project is estimated at 5.8 million US dollars, of which 2.1 million are funded by UNHCR, while the local authority in the capital, Aden, bears the amount of 3.75 million US dollars, for the purpose of providing safe and reliable sanitation services to vulnerable groups.

The project includes the construction of the central sewage pumping station in Al-Arish, and the rehabilitation and expansion of the current sewage network, which reduces inter-contamination and improves public health in the region, with a total of 1.5 million beneficiaries by 2026, in Dar Saad, Sheikh Othman, and Mansoura.

Lamlas urged the speedy start of project implementation and adherence to specifications and standards, stressing that the vital project to improve infrastructure is gaining importance for the residents of the capital, Aden, to protect groundwater from pollution.

He pointed out that the project is the basic building block for relieving pressure on the Al-Haswah station, and will help confront urban expansion and stop the process of discharge into the sea.
