President Al-Zubaidi: Peace remains elusive in our homeland due to the relentless Houthi terrorism both on land and at sea

SMA NEWS – WASHINGTON
President Aidarous Qassem Al-Zubaidi, President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and Vice Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), met on Monday evening at the United Nations headquarters in New York with HH Mauro Vieira, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil.

The meeting, which was attended by the Ambassador of Yemen to the United Nations, Mr. Mohammed Al-Saadi, reviewed bilateral relations with Brazil, as well as prospects for cooperation in humanitarian and service sectors, particularly the exchange of expertise in the agricultural sector.

The meeting discussed the latest developments in the political and humanitarian situation in the country and the outcomes of the political process led by the UN Special Envoy, Mr. Hans Grundberg, amid continued escalation by Houthi militias, including their targeting of commercial vessels in the Bab al-Mandeb strait and the Gulf of Aden.

In this regard, President Al-Zubaidi reaffirmed that the war launched by the terrorist Houthi militias against our people and its escalation against international maritime navigation has led to the disruption of all efforts and initiatives aimed at bringing about peace to the country and the region, noting the impossibility of reaching sustainable peace in light of this unjustified escalation that targets our people, their capabilities, and their basic food security.

President Al-Zubaidi called on Brazil to play a role in advancing endeavors to bring about peace to the country through its position in BRICS and its good relations with countries influencing international decisions, highlighting in this context full support for Brazil’s G-20 presidency.

For his part, the Brazilian Foreign Minister has affirmed the readiness of the government of his country to support UN-led efforts to bring about peace in the country and bolster sustainable development pathways to alleviate the dire humanitarian crisis caused by nine years of ongoing war.

The meeting was attended by Mr. Amr Al-Beidh, member of the STC’s Presidium and Special Representative of the President of the STC for Foreign Affairs, and Mr. Imad Mohammed, director of the office of the Vice President of the PLC.
