President Al-Zubaidi Participates in 79th UN General Assembly Opening Session

President Aidarous Qassem Al-Zubaidi, President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and Vice Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), participated within the delegation of the PLC headed by Dr. Rashad Al-Alimi on Tuesday, in the opening session of the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA79) in New York City, USA.
The session was opened with an address delivered by the President of the United Nations General Assembly, Mr. Philémon Yang, who called for global cooperation, urging world leaders to prioritize peace and prosperity and declared the year’s Assembly theme, “Unity in Diversity, for the Advancement of Peace, Sustainable Development, and Human Dignity for Everywhere and for All,” which focuses on pillars of peace and security, sustainable development, human rights, and humanitarian assistance, warning of an unprecedented arms race not seen since the Cold War.
In his remarks, Mr. Yang renewed the call for an immediate ceasefire in the war between Israel and Hamas, the unconditional release of all hostages, and for all parties to abide by international law, including international humanitarian law.
In his annual report on the work of the United Nations, UN Secretary-General Mr. António Guterres presented an assessment of the world’s key priorities and challenges, emphasizing the urgent need for strengthened international cooperation to end poverty and inequality, spur economic progress and job-creation for all, and ensure that groundbreaking technologies like artificial intelligence are a boon, not a barrier, to human progress and equality.
