Aden Chamber of Commerce Participates in an International Event on Empowering Local Communities

The Jordanian capital, Amman, witnessed a discussion event on “Empowering Local Communities in Yemen” organized by the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) and Afaq Shababia Foundation (ASF) with the support of the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (DANIDA) and participation of Aden Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ADENCCI).
In the event in which Eng. Ashraf Khanbari, Deputy Director General of the Aden Chamber of Commerce, participated at, with representatives from the government, local authorities, the private sector, international donors, embassies, and study and research centers, the participants discussed the importance of strengthening the role of local communities through developing and activating the partnership between the different sectors in the country.
The event witnessed a remarkable participation of the Office of the United Nations (UN) Envoy in Yemen, the Dutch Embassy, the European Union Mission to Yemen, the United Nations Development Program, the World Bank, the American Democratic Institute NDI, and other International Organizations and donners and NGOs.
The participants discussed 4 working papers that addressed topics including empowering civil society organizations, economic empowerment, empowering local frameworks and community safety, and empowering women and youth, in which they reviewed the recent situation in the local community and main challenges facing its members with the required needs to overcome them through the help and support of the participating entities which their representatives participated.
During the review of the working papers, many interventions were made and discussed by the participants and specialists in which recommendations were made to be considered and advised to be planned and executed on the ground to reflect the real contribution of how to empowering the local communities.
