A delegation from the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Fisheries discusses with World Bank ways to support agriculture and fisheries sectors

A delegation from the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Fisheries participated in the high-level meeting held during January 29-30, 2025 in the Jordanian capital, Amman, with representatives from the World Bank, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), in addition to representatives from the Social Fund for Development and the Public Works Project.
The meeting discussed the World Bank’s development interventions in the agriculture and fisheries sectors in our country, and prospects for enhancing cooperation to support the sustainability of the two sectors and improve food security, especially with the current situation of the agricultural sector from the deterioration of agricultural infrastructure, and its impact on agricultural production and livestock, in addition to weak institutional and technical capabilities and scarcity of water resources, pointing to the importance of urgent interventions to support farmers and fishermen, along with long-term investments to ensure the sustainability of agricultural production and improve the livelihoods of farmers and fishermen.
The discussions focused on the progress made in the Food Security Response Project in Yemen, which is being implemented with funding from the World Bank and targets 56 districts in 11 governorates, and its contribution to achieving economic and social stability in the targeted areas.
On the sidelines of the meeting, the ministerial delegation held a number of meetings, most notably with the World Bank Director in Yemen and the Director of the World Bank’s Agriculture Unit for the Middle East and North Africa. During the meetings, mechanisms for expanding the scope of future projects were discussed, focusing on developing agricultural policies, enhancing institutional capacities, and achieving sustainable development for the agricultural and fisheries sector in our country.
