Aden The capital holds the first medical conference for the health system in our country

Under the patronage of the Prime Minister, Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak, the Minister of Public Health and Population, Dr. Qasim Mohammed Buhaibeh, and the Minister of State, Governor of Aden Governorate, Mr. Ahmed Hamed Lamlas, the Ministry of Public Health and Population organized the first medical conference for the health system in Yemen from February 18-20 with the support of the World Health Organization, UNICEF, and the official sponsor, “Golden Gulf Gate Company”.
At the opening, the Prime Minister, Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak, delivered a speech via (video communication) on the importance of the conference for the health system in Yemen, and the outcomes that will result from it aimed at developing its path.
The Minister of Public Health and Population, Prof. Dr. Qasim Mohammed Buhaibeh, also delivered a speech in which he stressed the importance of the conference in the presence of an elite group of specialists in the health system and local, regional and international health development partners, to discuss the challenges facing the health system in our country and work to find sustainable solutions to ensure the continuity and improvement of health services.
A number of speeches were delivered at the medical conference by Dr. Omar Zein, a speech on behalf of the Preparatory Committee, Dr. Hanan Boukli, a speech on behalf of the World Health Organization, and a speech on behalf of UNICEF by Mr. Peter Hawken, UNICEF Representative in Yemen, in which they emphasized the importance of holding the first conference on the health system in Yemen and the importance of providing support to achieve sustainability in health services and health sector projects.
The opening ceremony of the conference also included a video report on the most important achievements of the Ministry of Health and Population during the past four years. After that, the exhibition was opened, which was held on the sidelines of the conference with the participation of more than 30 pharmaceutical and medical supplies companies. He and his companions toured the exhibition pavilions, most notably (the corner of the Golden Gulf Gate Company), the golden sponsor of the conference, and praised the content of the exhibition of samples of medicines, supplies and modern medical devices. After that, the conference sessions began by discussing a number of agendas and topics related to the overall conditions of the health sector in Yemen.
The two-day first conference on the health system in Yemen concluded with a set of recommendations aimed at developing the health sector, including preparing a national strategy for the period 2026-2035, restructuring the Ministry of Health and its programs, and updating the regulatory regulations, with a focus on training health cadres and enhancing the criteria for nomination for leadership positions in coordination with the relevant authorities.
The recommendations stressed updating health care models, activating the community health worker program, enhancing the preventive health approach, supporting physical therapy and prosthetic centers, and improving the management of chronic diseases.
The participants recommended the need to enhance the efficiency of health spending, governance of community contribution, and accelerating the approval of the Health Support Fund, in addition to studying the possibility of implementing health insurance, activating rural services for doctors, and developing a national strategy for health human resources. The importance of supporting local pharmaceutical industries, enhancing drug rationalization and antimicrobial resistance programs, in addition to expanding the digital infrastructure and linking health facilities electronically was also emphasized.
For his part, the Minister of Public Health and Population, Dr. Qasim Buhaibeh, stressed that the conference represents a fundamental pillar for developing the health system, noting that the recommendations will form a roadmap for the ministry’s work during the coming period, with the formation of a special unit to follow up on its implementation. He also stressed the need to find sustainable solutions to reduce the migration of health professionals. At the conclusion of the conference, a number of leaders, health cadres and supporting bodies were honored in appreciation of their contribution to the success of the event.
