Abyan, Al Dhale and Al Mahrah Governorates to Have 25 MW Solar Energy Projects

In a step towards enhancing renewable energy in the liberated governorates, the Ministry of Electricity and Energy signed an agreement to implement solar power generation stations in three governorates, in partnership with the private sector and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), as part of the government’s efforts to expand renewable energy projects and benefit from the funding allocated for this purpose.
The signing of the agreement came under the directives of the Minister of Electricity and Energy, Eng. Maneh Bin Yameen, where the First Undersecretary of the Ministry of Electricity, Abdul Hakim Fadhel, and the Director General of the General Electricity Corporation, Mujib Al-Shaabi, signed the minutes of the meeting for the draft contract to establish solar power stations with a capacity of 25 megawatts as a first phase, distributed as – Abyan: 10 megawatts – Al-Mahra: 10 megawatts – Al-Dhale: 5 megawatts
This project comes in accordance with the tender that was previously announced, within the framework of the government’s orientation towards implementing renewable energy projects in all liberated governorates, and strengthening partnership with the private sector to provide sustainable energy sources.
These projects come within the framework of the efforts made by the ministry to complete the required studies and contract drafts for renewable energy projects, with funding from the United Nations Development Program UNDP, through a specialized international legal firm, in addition to the support of the International Finance Corporation IFC, in the path of transitioning towards renewable energy and opening the door to competition for the private sector to establish sustainable energy projects.
