“ROOM” Foundation for Earth Development concluded a qualitative program on Thursday entitled “Enhancing the Capacities of Persons with Disabilities for Development and Peace”, sponsored by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in partnership with the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF), and supported by the Peace Track Initiative, with the attendance and participation of Aden Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The program, attended by Eng. Ashraf Khanbari, Deputy Director General of the Aden Chamber of Commerce and Industry, concluded with recommendations from a training workshop held following the conclusion of a three-day training course. On the fourth day, the workshop brought together decision-makers from government and international agencies with the course’s trainees.

The most important recommendations included activating local and international quotas for the representation of persons with disabilities and ensuring their effective implementation, ensuring their participation in decision-making at various institutional and governmental levels. This was in addition to rehabilitating and developing infrastructure, including roads and buildings, with an emphasis on ensuring universal accessibility standards to meet the needs of all groups, especially persons with disabilities.

The program aims to empower women with disabilities in the fields of dialogue, communication, advocacy, and peacebuilding. It also targets a select group of influential young women with disabilities and leaders of organizations.

The program is part of a project that seeks to integrate women with disabilities into public life and ensure their full inclusion in the women’s roadmap by providing them with the knowledge and skills necessary for effective participation in decision-making and community work.
