Former Pentagon Official: Aden’s Security Stability Requires Moving the US Embassy There

SMA NEWS – WASHINGTON
Michael Rubin, a former US Department of Defense official and researcher at the Middle East Forum Center, called on the US State Department to move the US embassy to the capital, Aden, given the city’s security stability.

Rubin, who recently visited the capital, Aden, said that the absence of a US diplomatic presence in Aden is unjustified. He explained that the city has witnessed remarkable stability since its liberation from the Houthis by southern forces a decade ago, despite attempts to destabilize this situation by the Muslim Brotherhood, Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, and some northern groups.

Rubin indicated two options for the effective and permanent return of US diplomats. One of them is to move the embassy to the capital, Aden, and operate from Aden International Airport, explaining that the airport is a safe facility. The second option is to move the US embassy to the most developed and commercially active district in Aden.
