Earlier on Tuesday, Marseille public prosecutor Xavier Tarabeux said the body of one man had been found and that up to eight people might have been buried in the debris. The gender of the second victim was not specified by authorities.
Authorities added they were looking into what might have caused the collapse, with local residents blaming the old and dilapidated state of the buildings as a factor.
