Despite the kidnapping of its employees.. The United Nations resumes its work in Houthi areas

SMA NEWS – GENEVA
The United Nations reopened its offices in Houthi militia areas after 10 days of closure due to the arbitrary Houthi arrest campaign of its local employees.

Sources working in international and UN organizations in Sana’a stated that the United Nations issued a circular to its offices to resume work in areas controlled by the Houthi militia, starting today, Sunday.

According to the same sources, the United Nations began opening all its offices except for Saada Governorate, where the Houthi militias ban the activities of international organizations, after a suspension that lasted about 10 days due to a Houthi arrest campaign.

Human rights defenders described the resumption of the United Nations’ activities as a clear abandonment of its kidnapped employees, as the resumption was conditional on their release first, but they are still being kidnapped in the militia’s prisons.

On January 24, the United Nations suspended all official movements within areas controlled by the Houthi militia, and asked its employees to work from their homes, following a widespread kidnapping campaign by the Houthis.
