For the first time in American history.. President Trump appoints a Yemeni as Washington’s ambassador to a prominent Gulf state

For the first time in American history, a diplomat of Yemeni origin has been appointed to a high-level position in a prominent Gulf state. US President Donald Trump announced the appointment of the mayor of Hamtramck, Michigan, Amer Ghaleb, of Yemeni origin, as the US ambassador to the State of Kuwait.
Trump said in a post on his platform (Truth Social) “I am pleased to announce that Amer Ghaleb will assume the position of US ambassador to the State of Kuwait,” adding that “Galeb, as mayor of Hamtramck, worked hard to help us secure a historic victory (during the elections) in Michigan.”
“Amer earned his M.D. from Ross University School of Medicine and continues to proudly serve his community as a healthcare professional. I know he will proudly represent our country in this new role. Congratulations, Amer,” he continued.
Amer Ghaleb, 45, was born in Yemen and was elected in 2021 as the first Arab-American Muslim mayor of Hamtramck.
