Hind Omiran Asserts the Right of Self-Determination of the Southern People During Her Meetings in Brussels and Stockholm
Hind Omiran, a southern activist and member of the Independent Southern Group, participated in “Elite Dialogue” held in EU Capital, Brussels, under the title of “Empowering Woman’s Role in Peace Process” under supervision of EEAS and FPI with coordination with ID organization.
The dialogue, held from 3 to 5 December 2018, took the form of a workshop with participation of activists from Yemen and Syria to exchange experiences about empowering the woman’s role in peace process with attendance of several EU officials.
During the workshop, Omiran talked about the role of southern women and intentional marginalization of women after the Yemeni Union while women were pioneers of social and political work during the first state of of the south. She called for empowering women during the upcoming peace process with percentage of participation not less than 30%.
Omiran met commissioners of DG ECHO and DG NEAR in addition to other Yemeni participants and Mrs. Federica Mogherini, supreme representative of Foreign, political and security affairs in EU. She also met representatives of UK and Belgian governments as she explained in details the southern cause, the role of women and the southern people’s rights of self-determination and establishing their modern civilian state.
Omiran also asserted that any talks or negotiations that don’t consider the southern people are irrelevant and will fail. She also asserted that the current conflict is southern – northern and the real solution is in a fair solution to the southern cause as it is the key to solve the Yemeni crisis.
