Houthi piracy disrupts 90% of container shipping traffic in the Red Sea
SMA NEWS – WASHINGTON
American intelligence confirmed that the movement of commercial ships in the Red Sea was damaged as a result of attacks by the Iranian-backed Houthi militia.
It pointed out a sharp decline in container shipping in the region by 90% between last December and February, according to an assessment issued by the US Defense Intelligence Agency.
It points out that these threats increase pressure on global shipping, which is already suffering from disruptions in the Panama Canal.
65 countries were affected by the Houthi criminal attacks, and 29 major companies were forced to change their routes, increasing fuel costs by $1 million per flight.
