SMA NEWS – ADDIS ABABA
Our country’s delegation, headed by the Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Fisheries, Major General Salem Al-Soqtari, participated in the dialogue sessions on the right approach to food systems on the sidelines of the UN Food Systems Summit, currently being held in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.
During the session, participants listened to the experiences of peoples in working to mobilize scientific ideas related to food, reviewed the progress made since previous food summits, and the opportunities available to achieve this in agricultural and production work through an approach to food sovereignty.
Participants discussed the possibility of mobilizing funding to address climate change, which has a high impact on nature, the benefits of climate investments and financing and their use for the intended purpose, and identified adaptation and biodiversity, as well as actions that are effective goals in the agricultural production process. Participants also addressed the twin goals of climate action and the presentation of valuable ideas and science that support progress in all agricultural scientific fields. They also discussed the global consensus on sustainable, permanent solutions that contribute to and mitigate the challenges facing peoples and countries in transforming agricultural work as a food source and combating poverty and hunger. They also discussed harnessing communities, systems, governments, funding funds, scientific centers, and universities for food systems and food safety to effectively contribute to achieving these goals. The conference is attended by Arab and regional agriculture ministers, agricultural systems and food security specialists, decision-makers in the Arab region, representatives of regional and international organizations, and stakeholders, focusing on food systems in the Arab region and financing for enhancing climate resilience, post-conflict recovery, and fragile environments.
