United Nations – World Food Programme humanitarian worker dies in detention in Yemen

France issued an official statement regarding the demise of World Food Programme humanitarian worker in detention of Houthi group in Yemen, hereunder it is:
France expresses its profound indignation following the death of a World Food Programme (WFP) humanitarian worker who had been arbitrarily detained by the Houthis under inhumane conditions since last January. France offers its condolences to the loved ones of the victim and to the United Nations.

France reiterates its strongest possible condemnation of the Houthis’ arbitrary detention of employees the United Nations, non-governmental organizations and diplomatic missions. France demands their immediate, unconditional release.

France calls for the full respect of humanitarian personnel protections, in compliance with international humanitarian law and the guarantee of full, safe and unhindered humanitarian access. Humanitarian personnel must not be targeted under any circumstances.

France reaffirms its full support of the United Nations’ efforts in Yemen.
