Worldwide Coronavirus Cases Cross 80.43 Million, Death Toll at 1,760,548

More than 80.43 million people have been reported to be infected by the novel coronavirus globally and 1,760,548 have died, according to a Reuters tally.

Russia on Monday reported 27,787 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, including 6,253 in Moscow, pushing the national tally to 3,078,035. Authorities said 487 people had died overnight, taking the official death toll to 55,265.

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Germany increased by 10,976 to 1,651,834 and the reported death toll rose by 348 to 30,126, data from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) for infectious diseases showed on Monday. According to the RKI, fewer tests and laboratory examinations as well as fewer transmissions of the results by the health authorities are to be expected during the holidays and at the turn of the year.

Infections have been reported in more than 210 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019.
