Foreign Minister discusses with US Ambassador joint cooperation to implement decision to classify Houthi militias as terrorist organization

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Shaye Al-Zindani, discussed with the US Ambassador to Yemen, Stephen Fagin, the latest developments in the situation in Yemen, coinciding with the entry into force of the US decision to classify the Houthi militias as a foreign terrorist organization, and classifying a number of its leaders as global terrorist elements.

Minister Al-Zindani renewed the government’s welcome of the classification decision.. stressing the importance of the decision in weakening the terrorist Houthi militias and preventing them from obtaining weapons and funds and drying up the sources of terrorism.

He also stressed the government’s readiness to enhance coordination and cooperation with the US government to ensure the implementation of the decision and mitigate any negative effects on the humanitarian situation in Yemen.

For his part, the US Ambassador reiterated his country’s position in support of the Leadership Council and the Yemeni government, noting that this classification comes in response to the threats posed by the Houthi militias to US security, and to the stability of Yemen, the region and the world, stressing the importance of enhancing coordination and cooperation between the two friendly countries.
