Israel Intercepts Rocket Fired from Yemen, Shuts Down Ben Gurion Airport

SMA NEWS – TEL ABEEB
The Israeli military said it intercepted a rocket fired from Yemen toward Israel early Thursday morning, in the latest attack bearing the hallmarks of the Yemeni Houthi group.

Israel’s Channel 12 reported that “the Arrow air defense system intercepted the missile fired from Yemen,” which caused the closure of Ben Gurion Airport. Israeli paramedics reported that an Israeli was injured while seeking shelter after the missile was fired.

The military said in a statement that the missile triggered air raid sirens in several areas of central Israel. Israel has carried out retaliatory strikes against the group, including one on May 6 that damaged Sana’a International Airport, and another last week that targeted the ports of Hodeidah and Salif on the Red Sea.

Despite the Israeli strikes, the armed Houthi group continues to fire rockets toward Israel, claiming they are aimed “to support the Palestinians in Gaza.” The group agreed to halt attacks on US ships. The group did not claim responsibility for Thursday’s missile launch.
