Minister Al-Socotri participates in the ministerial meeting of the world’s agriculture and food ministers in Berlin

Major General Salem Abdullah Al-Socotri, Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Fisheries, participated in the ministerial meeting of the world’s agriculture and food ministers as part of the activities of the 17th World Food and Agriculture Forum, which is being held in the German capital, Berlin.

In the meeting, which was opened by the Federal Minister of Agriculture and Food in the Federal Republic of Germany, Dr. Shim Izdemir, during which a number of speeches were delivered by ministers and representatives of various countries in the world in the forum, as well as representatives of international organizations and funds, Minister Al-Socotri delivered our country’s speech, in which he expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the German government, represented by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food, for all the arrangements and organization for the success of the activities of this global forum.

In his speech entitled “Agriculture is a Sustainable Bioeconomy”, Al-Soqtri explained that our country, within the framework of this global trend, seeks to enhance this understanding and apply it in all its policies and strategies, despite the major challenges it faces in this regard, especially since we have been suffering from the scourge of conflict for more than ten years. He stressed that Yemen’s participation in this forum is not just a matter of participation, but rather a call for support in order to restore its progress again, stressing that a sustainable bio-economy is not just a path to prosperity; rather, for our country, it is a way to survive.

Al-Soqtri also explained that our country needs more international cooperation in the field of reconstruction and resilience, increasing food production, and strengthening a sustainable agricultural system capable of withstanding future shocks. In the context of his speech, he also reviewed a number of basic and urgent needs for our country in the agriculture and fisheries sectors, which are the basic building blocks for the advancement of these two sectors and restoring their leading role in the country’s economy, explaining that the ministry has prepared a matrix of priorities for the agricultural and fisheries sectors within the framework of a national strategy for agriculture and fisheries, in addition to sectoral strategies; Which was prepared in cooperation with international experts and with the support and coordination of our partners from international organizations.
Al-Soqtri urged donors to provide more support to encourage and increase local innovation and research into bio-economy solutions, technical assistance and knowledge transfer in sustainable agricultural and fisheries practices, stressing that this forum is an incentive to work together, which can transform the challenges we face into opportunities for growth and sustainability. He stressed that Yemen is ready to be an active partner in this global endeavor towards a sustainable bio-economy.
