No casualties.. a passenger train overturned in Iraq

The Iraqi authorities announced that the cars of the Baghdad-Basra train overturned within the Muthanna Governorate in the south of the country, without causing any casualties.

The Muthanna Governorate Police Command said on Friday that the cars of a train coming from the capital, Baghdad, overturned near the passenger station in the governorate.

The leadership said in its statement: “On the morning of January 12, 2024, an accident occurred in which 4 front cars of the train coming from Baghdad Governorate to Basra Governorate overturned, which led to the train leaving the track and the passengers disembarking.”

Local media reported that the cause of the train cars overturning was a hole in the train tracks, causing them to move away from each other, causing the train wheels to derail at the Samawa train station.

She added that the accident did not cause any human damage among the passengers, and the speed at the time of the accident was 50 km/h. Two carriages were damaged, and an investigation was opened by the railway administration to find out the causes of the accident.
