SMA NEWS – UN

Russia’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzia, said that his country appreciates the role of the United Arab Emirates and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in reaching the Riyadh agreement in Yemen.

In his speech during the UN Security Council session on Thursday, the Russian representative emphasized that achieving a political settlement in Yemen would be reflected in the stability of the entire region.

The United Nations envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffiths, said that investigations have proven the Houthi militia’s responsibility for the Aden airport attack.

During his presenting of his briefing to the Security Council on Thursday, Griffiths said that investigations have proven the Houthi militia’s implementation of the Aden airport attack.

Griffiths said that the extent of the damage caused by the Houthi militia attack on Aden airport is unusual.

The UN envoy renewed his condemnation in the strongest terms of the fierce attack that targeted the Yemeni government at Aden airport, killing and wounding dozens of civilians, including government officials, humanitarian aid workers and journalists.

The UN envoy expressed his solidarity with the new Yemeni government, which insisted on staying in Aden despite the risks, appreciating Saudi mediation efforts to push the implementation of the Riyadh Agreement.

Griffiths pointed out that the formation of the Yemeni government and its return to Aden was an indication of the success of the Riyadh Agreement.

He stressed that the progress made in implementing the Riyadh Agreement is of special importance and deserves great attention to preserve it.
