The parties to the conflict in Yemen agreed to determine the lists of detainees
SMA NEWS – AMMAN
The meeting of the supervisory committee for the implementation of the agreement for the release and exchange of detainees between the parties to the conflict in Yemen ended in the Jordanian capital, Amman, after six days of consultations.
The meeting focused on determining the names of detainees who will be released based on the numbers that were agreed upon in March of this year.
The discussions were held with the participation of the Office of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for Yemen and the International Committee of the Red Cross.
During the talks, the parties agree to intensify efforts to finalize the lists of detainees, by facilitating visits by the International Committee of the Red Cross to detention centers to help verify identities.
The UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, expressed his hope that the parties to the conflict will maintain their commitment to their agreement, and spare no effort to achieve the successful release of detainees within the framework of the UN-facilitated process.
He urged the completion of their lists as soon as possible, giving priority to the unconditional release of all sick, wounded and detained children, as well as arbitrarily detained persons, and political detainees, praising the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan for hosting this meeting.
