Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak received Tuesday, the United Nations Special Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg.
The Prime Minister was briefed by the UN envoy on the results of his regional and international visits and recent contacts to push towards reviving the political process, and the options available to push the terrorist Houthi militia and its supporters in Iran to seriously engage with peace efforts, stop its escalating violations against civilians, the latest of which are the brutal terrorist crimes against the people of Hanaka Al Masoud village in Al Bayda Governorate, and release the kidnapped UN and international employees.
The regional and international support required to support the government’s efforts in facing the economic, living and service challenges was also discussed, which were compounded by the Houthi militia’s systematic economic war on the Yemeni people and targeting of crude oil export ports, in addition to the continued Houthi escalation against commercial ships and international navigation.
The Prime Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to the comprehensive and just peace approach in accordance with the three locally agreed upon references that are supported regionally and internationally, especially Resolution 2216. He pointed out that the escalation actions of the terrorist Houthi militia aim to destabilize security and stability in the region and the world, threaten international shipping lines, undermine calm initiatives and efforts, and thwart peaceful solutions to the Yemeni crisis. In turn, the UN envoy expressed his appreciation for the Yemeni government’s positive engagement with peace efforts, stressing the United Nations’ keenness to double its efforts and actions to launch a comprehensive political process, reduce escalation, end the war, and achieve peace in Yemen.
