UN announces completing examinations of Safer tanker in preparation for its unloading
SMA NEWS – MAKHA
The United Nations announced the completion of the first phase of the plan to rescue the floating Safer oil tanker in the Red Sea, by completing its examination and assessing its eligibility to start the process of transferring 1.1 million barrels from it to a replacement tanker.
The dilapidated oil tanker was built about 45 years ago and constitutes a floating storage and unloading station that has not undergone any maintenance since 2015 due to the intransigence of the Iran-backed terrorist Houthi militia.
