UN Envoy: There is a path available to move towards a comprehensive peace in Yemen

SMA NEWS – GENEVA
UN Special Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, said, “Yemen has suffered from the scourge of conflict for more than ten years, and there is a practical path available to the parties to move towards a negotiated and comprehensive peace that benefits all Yemenis, with the support of regional actors and the international community.”

This came in a statement published by his office, which noted the conclusion of a series of meetings in Riyadh, during which he met with Foreign Minister Shaye’ al-Zindani, Saudi Ambassador to Yemen Mohammed Al Jaber, Emirati Ambassador Mohammed Al Zaabi, and several members of the diplomatic corps.

The UN envoy noted that the announcement of a cessation of hostilities between the United States and the Houthi militias on May 6 not only represents an opportunity to de-escalate the situation in the Red Sea, but also allows the parties to fulfill their previous commitments to a comprehensive ceasefire, implement economic measures, and move forward with a political process.

He said he discussed ways to focus collectively and coordinated efforts to advance efforts in Yemen, while providing sustainable stability and guarantees for the region.

Grundberg emphasized the urgent need to address the economic deterioration in Yemen, which directly impacts the daily lives of Yemenis across the country, noting that economic stability is a necessary foundation for any sustainable political progress.
