Yafa’a Festival: A Cultural Space to Revive the Himyar Identity

The Yafa’a Heritage Festival has become a cultural event and a heritage space to revive the identity of the ancient Himyar civilization, in line with its historical goals linked to a rich heritage.
On Monday, the Yafa’a tribes in concluded their annual folklore heritage festival, which aims to strengthen community cohesion and resolve issues and concerns that constitute a consensus among the people of the Yafa’a region and its various districts.
According to the festival organizers, successive generations and the people of the region have maintained the annual festival for centuries. The festival is not merely a dance celebration or poetry gathering, but rather carries profound cultural and heritage dimensions that revive the identity of the ancient Himyar civilization.
The Yafa’a tribes are spread across eight districts across the Abyan and Lahj governorates. This cultural heritage festival brings them together every year, affirming the unity of the Yafa’a identity that unites them, an extension of the Himyarite identity, whose roots lie deep in history.
