Geneva… and the Strength of the Southern Transitional Council
Participation of the southern transitional council in Geneva talks next month represents a qualitative turn over in the path of the southern cause. Talks will be proof of intent for all parties to end the war and seek political solutions.
The Southern Transitional Council will attend these talks, under UN sponsorship, as an observer. This position is the first official recognition of a real southern party who carries the expectations and goals of the southern people. In addition, the invitation of UN envoy to the Southern Transitional Council to attend a UN-sponsored talks as an observer shows that Un is keen to prepare future atmosphere for the next rounds of consultations dedicated to dialogues among all political parties, including the Southern Transitional Council, to reach inclusive political solutions to end Yemeni crisis and establish permanent sustainable peace.
We are not optimistic about serious intentions of all parties to end the war and seek political solutions. But it is also important to register our existence for UN and international bodies as a real political partner on the ground. In case other parties seek to exhaust the efforts of UN envoy and prolong war we will have the right to tale all measures and adopt our own options that decrease our people’s suffering.
This is the end for now, but we will have other talks after Geneva.
