Socotra is one of the largest Arab islands. It dates back to the stone age. It was the land of sacred goods like Frankincense, Commiphora and Incense. Ancient Greeks and Romans called it the land of happiness.
In our age, Socotra remained present with its virgin archipelago, valleys, shores and hidden treasures. But Socotra is still suffering negligence of development to be as it should be in spite of some efforts and aids delivered by UAE as part of the historic relations between UAE and Socotra.
Accordingly, we should ask: what do successive governments do to this vital island and archipelago? What did ancestors do to it? And what do successors do? Since 1967 independence, passing through the failure union of 1990 and treacherous war of 1994. During the days of Yemeni occupation to the lands and islands of the south, 23 years by the name of socialist party and 25 years by the name of union and Yemeni occupation, Socotra only got poverty, lack of development and political and cultural marginalization for its inhabitants.
In addition to robing its wealth, they are now trading it off, every party according to his way, law and legitimacy!! This trade off increased to an unprecedent level. So, why? Upcoming days will reveal what is meant for Socotra.
The answer is clear in recent developments with its minor details. But the conspiracy was exhausted by the efforts of good people of Socotra and wisdom and help of our brothers in the Arab Coalition.
This island with its deeply-rooted history, ancient trade relations and its extraordinary competitive position could have abandoned its surrounding, prosecutors and relations. What prevented all this is only authenticity of its origins.
