Deputy Head of Mission from the Office of UN Special Envoy for Yemen concludes meetings in Aden the capital

The Deputy Head of Mission for the Office of the UN Special Envoy for Yemen (OSESGY), Sarhad Fatah, concluded a week-long visit in Aden where he met with Yemen’s Prime Minister Ahmed Bin Mubarak, Foreign Minister Shayea Al-Zindani, Minister of State and Governor of Aden Ahmed Lamlas, Defense Minister Mohsen Al-Daeri, Acting President of the STC Ali Al-Katheeri, Managing Director of the Executive Bureau Afrah Al-Zouba, PLC Chairman Advisor Mahmoud Al-Subaihi, as well as representatives from civil society and women representatives of political parties and components.
The discussions focused on the current situation in Yemen, reaffirming that peace is the only viable path forward and stressing the critical need for constructive dialogue aimed at a nationwide ceasefire and initiating a political process. The discussions also centered around the need for economic stability through collaboration between the parties to mitigate the widespread negative impacts on all areas of Yemenis’ lives and help ease economic hardships that directly affect people’s livelihoods.
During all meetings the impact of regional escalation on Yemen’s stability were touched upon as well as the importance of sustained, unified support from regional stakeholders as well as all permanent members of the UN Security Council (P5) for the UN-led peace process.
In addition, the discussions outlined the Office of the Special Envoy’s ongoing political dialogues with diverse Yemeni parties and civil society, which seek to gather a range of perspectives on political, economic, and security issues, and aim to generate momentum towards a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
Discussions also focused on the need to continue working closely with the UN to translate the understandings reached last July in Oman into concrete actions aimed at releasing all conflict-related detainees, adhering to the “all for all” principle. The ongoing work and results reached by local mediators to release prisoners were also highlighted.
At the forefront of all meetings in Aden, the issue of the detained UN, NGO, civil society, and diplomatic personnel by Ansar Allah was also discussed, and OSESGY reiterated the UN’s relentless calls and efforts for their immediate and unconditional release.
