A dispute between Ministry of Finance and Central Bank disrupts operations of Aden’s power stations
SMA NEWS – ADEN THE CAPITAL
The media official at the Electricity Corporation in the capital, Aden, Nawar Abkar, revealed disagreements between the Minister of Finance and the Governor of the Central Bank, which hindered the purchase of an emergency amount of fuel for power stations.
Abkar pointed out that there was a contract for 2,000 tons of diesel, sufficient for one day only, and the purchase of 5,000 tons from one of the merchants failed, as he refused to pump until he received notification of payment for its value, stressing that the disputes between the Finance Ministry and the Central Bank still exist.
Nawar Abkar explained that the generation stations in Aden began gradually stopping work operations due to the lack of fuel supply, and due to the failure to pay the diesel dealer’s dues.
Abkar called on the Prime Minister and the Presidential Leadership Council to quickly intervene and resolve the disputes between Finance and the Bank and to complete the purchase of emergency diesel.
The hours of power off in the capital, Aden, increased over the past few days to 6 hours compared to 2 hours of operation, from only 4 hours of shut-off when the diesel ran out.
