A peaceful stand by workers of the South in the vicinity of presidential palace in Aden the capital
SMA NEWS – ADEN THE CAPITAL
The Federation of Southern Trade Unions, trade unionists, workers and employees, on Monday, organized a workers’ protest in the vicinity of the presidential palace in the capital, Aden, “Al-Ma’ashiq”, to demand improvement of the conditions of workers and employees in government institutions.
The Head of the union, Sami Khairan, stressed that “the protest sends a strong message from voices struck by hunger and humiliation and only looking for their legal and legitimate right,” adding, “Listen to our voices, we are the bearers of the flags of science, industry, health, oil, and all forms of the state that stand on the shoulders of these workers.”
Khairan explained, “What load can a worker carry when he is exhausted, weak and unable to support his children,” noting that “our pause bears nothing but the cry of a hungry person who has become weak due to the weight of the suffering he is carrying and the high cost of living that has killed him and killed all his dreams and children.”
He warned against ignoring the cries of the exhausted and oppressed worker, so that he would not be tempted to defend himself and his children from a famine that might destroy everything.
The workers demanded that the government implement austerity, reduce diplomatic missions to a minimum, not send any salaries in foreign currency abroad, preserve hard currency inside the country, and attempt austerity through spending and financial waste.
