Aden the capital Receives Fifth Batch of Saudi Oil Grant

The fifth batch of the oil derivatives grant provided by Saudi Arabia via the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY) arrived at the Yemeni port of Aden on Wednesday.
It totaled 90,000 tons of Saudi oil derivatives, including 60,000 tons of diesel and 30,000 tons of fuel oil, taking to 507,000 tons since the grant, worth $422 million, was first announced.
The grant aims to meet the monthly need of the power stations in Yemeni governorates.
It is based on requests by Yemen’s Ministry of Electricity and Energy, and in implementation of the directives of the Saudi leadership to serve Yemenis, said SDPRY representative Mohammed al-Yehya.
“It represents an extension of the support provided by the kingdom to Yemen in all fields and underlines the bonds of brotherhood and solid bilateral ties,” he added.
The grant has contributed to supplying electrical stations with more than 310 million liters of oil derivatives, producing more than 1140 gigawatts, increasing the average consumption per subscriber by 30 percent and providing job opportunities for more than 2,250 Yemeni citizens during the first quarter of 2021.
It further led to the increase in the energy produced by 40 percent, transport and logistics services with a total operation of 3,163 trucks and electricity sales by more than 30 percent, which contributed to improved conditions in various health, educational and service fields.
The Saudi grants have reduced the burdens on the Yemeni government’s budget, reduced the depletion of hard currency in purchasing oil derivatives from global markets, stabilized Yemen’s riyal exchange rate and fuel prices against the US dollar, provided job opportunities, raised the productivity of Yemeni citizens, raised the performance of vital sectors and improved the livelihoods of Yemenis.
