[su_label type=”info”]SMA News – Aden – Exclusive [/su_label][su_spacer size=”10″] Der Spiegel, the famous German newspaper, interviewed Mr. Fadl Al-Gaadi, deputy secretary general of the Southern Transitional Council and member of the council’s presidency. The interview discussed several issues relevant to the political situation, the economic file and the military role of the Arab Coalition and the Southern Transitional Council.
The German reporter, who returns to Aden after his last visit in 1999, expressed his astonishment as the situation changed significantly with major improvement in the security status of the southern capital where hundreds of citizens were enjoying the beaches with their families during the weekend. He also noticed that southern flags are over all facilities and all streets expressing the serious will of the southern people to hold on their political demands and their speeches directed to UN and Security Council.
Al-Gaadi started his talk with welcoming the German reporter saying “It is important to appreciate the major efforts of Germany and EU to support the efforts of the Arab Coalition and their care to continue supporting peace efforts. This visit of Der Spiegel is part of this support reflect the truth to the international public opinion. So, thank you for that”.
Al-Gaadi indicated that the Southern Transitional Council is a national entity with a political leadership that carries the expectations of the southern people who are struggling since July 7th, 1994 to restore their state on the borders of May 21st, 1990 as this will restore their full rights and preserve the sacrifices of martyrs.
Al-Gaadi added: “Our German friends had a similar experience between eastern and western Germany with different outcomes of course. Law and democracy prevailing in Germany forced the government to dedicate a large portion of money to improve the economic situations of citizens who were suffering and worked on establishing justice and equity and this made the German experience successful”. He indicated that the contrary happened in the Yemeni union as the north jumped over the southern partner, assassinated their leaders, destroyed their military capabilities, exiled all southern figures and robbed southern fortunes for the interest of the Arab Republic of Yemen. They didn’t stop at the 1994 military invasion. Instead, they invaded the south once again in March 2015 just to destroy the south.
He added that the economic situation and collapse of public associations is the result of clear conspiracy to destroy the southern infrastructure and hinder the work of sovereign associations so that Sanaa can stay in control of the economy through its centrally-operated facilities.
He said: “In this respect, we have several vision to improve the southern economy that will be declared during an economic conference that puts a clear road map to run southern resources and activate the role of southern investors and clear their road off all barriers”.
Al-Gaadi described the role of the Arab coalition as completely positive through their support to liberate the south in a relatively short time and this role will always be remembered in the south. He added that the brothers in Saudi Arabia and UAE are preparing to restore hope through reconstructing what destroyed by war, especially in restoring security under the principles of good governance. This is a major sector that requires wide knowledge and full cooperation with southern troops including backup and support brigades, Shabwa Elites and Hadhramaut Elites, as part of internal security and fighting terrorism and drug dealing. They held several training courses to qualify troops in anti-terrorism, anti-drugs and mine clearance efforts.
Concerning the role of the council in military operations in Al-Hodeida, Al-Gaadi saod that the southern resistance was, and still is, a positive partner to the Arab Coalition in achieving victories in the west coast to Al-Hodeida. Their approach is clear in protecting citizens and restoring security to the areas occupied by Al-Houthi militias who implanted hundreds of land mines to kill innocent civilians. He asserted that the council, in his talks to international delegations, especially UN Envoy to Yemen, always asserts the importance of establishing peace and ending the suffering caused by these militias that pushed poor citizens to be killed, evacuated or starve to death.
