Al-Hajj Meets with Director of NDI

The Director of the General Directorate of Foreign Affairs (GDFA) of the Southern Transitional Council (STC), Dr. Saleh Mohsen Al-Hajj, met today, Wednesday, in his office in the capital, Aden, with the senior director of the National Democratic Institute (NDI) in Yemen, Ms. Kenza Aqertit.

In the meeting, Dr. Al-Hajj briefed the director of NDI on the phases of launching the Southern National Dialogue and the achievements reached in convening the consultative meeting and the signing of the Southern National Charter.

Al-Hajj shed light on the wide participation of southern political, social, and independent components and representatives of women and youth, affirming the pursuit of dialogue with all southern spectra and personalities.

In relating to the developments of the political process, Al-Hajj reaffirmed the STC’s adherence to establishing a special negotiating framework for the cause of the South within the peace negotiations and reiterating the warning against the intransigence of the terrorist Houthi militia and its continued attacks on the border areas of the South to thwart any endeavors to reach a comprehensive and sustainable peace.

During the meeting, Al-Hajj touched on government corruption, pointing out that the government wasted a lot of aid funds and opportunities and that the STC has a moral responsibility to take decisions that halt tampering with the revenues of the South and bring about an improvement in living conditions and public services.

For her part, Ms. Aqertit stressed the importance of strengthening partnerships through the exchange of expertise in various fields, noting the importance of continuing to establish dialogue as a solution to all differences and the active participation of women to promote and boost democratic practice.

The meeting was attended by the head of the Women’s Commission in the STC, Dr. Suhair Ali Ahmed, the head of the International Organizations Section of GDFA, Mr. Raafat Al-Alawi, and the National Democratic Institute Program Officer in the capital, Aden, Dr. Hussam Al-Gadani.
