Al-Jaadi meets Senior Adviser on Gender at Office of Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of United Nations

The Deputy Secretary-General of the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Southern Transitional Council, Mr. Fadl Mohammed Al-Jaadi, on Thursday, met in his office in Aden the capital, with Ms. Laura Mitchell, Senior Adviser on Gender in the Office of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations.

The meeting discussed ways to enhance the role of women in the political process and negotiations to find a comprehensive and just solution to the crisis in the South and Yemen, and push their participation in a broader series of economic, social and humanitarian activities.

During the meeting, Al-Jaadi indicated that women in the South had a distinguished position and an active role, as they assumed high positions in the southern country before 1990, but after the occupation on the South in 1994, the tribal regime of Sana’a sought to exclude and marginalize their role.

Al-Jaadi stressed that the Southern Transitional Council pays attention to southern women at the highest levels through their presence in the Presidency of the Transitional Council, passing through other central and local bodies, and their participation in work in all political, social and humanitarian fields.

For her part, Ms. Laura Mitchell expressed her happiness at what she witnessed of the active presence of women in the Transitional Council and their involvement in creating a future that contributes to resolving crises and establishing peace, noting the importance of continuing her communication with the Transitional Council for more cooperation and partnership to work on raising the efficiency of women and enhancing their role in the future.
