The Chairman of the National Assembly of the Southern Transitional Council (STC), Mr. Ali Abdullah Al-Kathiri, in his meeting today, Thursday, at the Assembly’s headquarters, with Mr. Diego Zorrilla, Deputy Humanitarian Coordinator for Yemen, UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, discussed aspects of joint cooperation between the National Assembly and international organizations.

During the meeting, they reviewed a range of humanitarian interventions implemented by UN organizations in the capital, Aden, and the South in general, as well as the mechanism for coordinating and organizing joint action in a way that contributes to alleviating the human suffering resulting from the continuation of the war launched by the Houthi militias and terrorist forces against the South.

The meeting touched on the problems of undocumented immigrants and internal displacement, which have constituted a major economic burden and enormous pressure on the service sectors in the governorates of the South, and their negative repercussions on the lives of citizens, as well as the security risks that have emerged recently, represented by acts of chaos and internal conflict that have arisen between African immigrants themselves in the capital, Aden, and the solutions that can be provided by international organizations concerned with refugees, to appropriately end this problem, in coordination with local authorities and government agencies, and the possibility of the STC contributing to this aspect.

The chairman of the Assembly stressed the need to shed light on the humanitarian situation in the governorates of the South, as well as the importance of international organizations contributing to providing urgent assistance to address it, in light of the collapse of the economic and service conditions, the deteriorating living conditions, and the continuation of the double war that the people of the South are facing at the hands of the Houthi militias and terrorist forces.

For his part, Mr. Zorrilla extended his thanks to the STC’s leadership for the support they provide to international organizations to facilitate their work and tasks, reviewing the activities and programs provided by UN organizations in the humanitarian and relief aspects, and the mechanism for identifying humanitarian needs and directing support in coordination with local authorities.

At the end of the meeting, Mr. Zorrilla expressed his concern about the deteriorating economic and service conditions in the governorates of the South, hoping that regional and international endeavours would lead to an agreement that durably ends the war and establishes a comprehensive, just, and sustainable peace in the region.

The meeting was attended by Mr. Zakaria Saeed, Special Assistant to the Deputy Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs, Mr. Saeed Hersi, Director of the UN Office for Project Coordination (OCHA), Rapporteur of the National Assembly, Mr. Nasr Harhra, Mr. Abdul Fattah Al-Shaeri, head of the Assembly’s Foreign Relations Committee, and Dr. Abdullah Baseeb, Head of the Human Rights Committee.
