SMA NEWS – ADEN THE CAPITAL
Ali Abdullah Al-Kathiri, Acting President of the Southern Transitional Council and Chairman of the National Assembly, held an emergency meeting on Monday, with Ms. Iman Musa, Head of the Education Department in the General Secretariat, and Mr. Anwar Mahdhar, Director of the Education Department of the Transitional Council in the capital, Aden.
During the meeting, which included Mr. Zaid bin Hariz, Chairman of the General Education Committee in the National Assembly, and his deputy, Ms. Sophia Al-Hadar, Al-Kathiri discussed the state of public education, particularly the disruption to the educational process over the past year in Aden. They also discussed proposed solutions for resuming classes with the start of the new school year.
The meeting addressed the importance of establishing a special fund to support teachers, given the difficult economic conditions the country is experiencing, with the aim of saving the educational process from complete collapse if serious measures are not taken to address the current situation.
The meeting, which was also attended by Dr. Salem Al-Salfi, Chairman of the Education Committee in the House of Advisors, and Mr. Ayman Al-Wael, Head of the Unions and Syndicates Department in the Department of Social and Public Affairs at the General Secretariat, discussed the issue of raising tuition fees in private schools. The meeting emphasized support for the position of the Education Office in the capital, Aden, and endorsed its circular to maintain fees as they were last year, taking into account the economic circumstances facing parents.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Al-Kathiri praised the efforts of those working in the education sector, stressing that the Southern Transitional Council supports teachers’ rights, but without this negatively impacting the continuity of the educational process.
