Al-Socotri Discusses Cooperation Between the Ministry of Agriculture and FAO

Salem Al-Socotri, Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Fisheries, welcomed the Resident Representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Dr. Hussein Jadin, at the Ministry’s General Office in the capital, Aden, this morning, Tuesday.

The meeting discussed enhancing joint cooperation between the Ministry and the Organization to facilitate the implementation of its interventions and projects implemented by the Organization in a number of governorates, including the Food Security Response Project funded by the World Bank and the Rural Livelihoods Development Project in Socotra and Al-Mahra.

The two sides discussed the interventions required by the National Centers for Locusts, Honey, Coffee, Genetic Resources and the Information Center, in addition to the procedures related to implementing the Ministry’s projects in coffee-growing areas to increase its production.

They also reviewed the progress of FAO projects to develop the agricultural sector, most notably the Rural Resilience Project in the Agriculture and Irrigation Sector, the Desert Locust Control Project, and the Genetic Resources Project.

They expressed the need to coordinate with the Executive Unit for Externally Funded Projects and provide it with all the projects of the organization and its local partners through follow-up, monitoring, evaluation and observation, to ensure the integrity of project implementation procedures.

The meeting also discussed arrangements related to celebrating World Food Day and the arrangements for holding the honey exhibition that the ministry will hold during the coming period, the national strategy for agriculture and fisheries and the possibility of supporting the interventions included in the organization’s projects.

The Minister of Agriculture expressed the ministry’s keenness to work to overcome all difficulties facing the organization’s work, calling for the optimal use of the projects it implements, and giving greater attention to sustainable development projects and supporting the institutional building of the ministry, its offices and bodies.
