Al-Soqatri calls on FAO to build capabilities of the agricultural and fisheries sectors

The Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, Salem Al-Soqatri, on Sunday, received the Resident Representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Dr. Hussein Jadin, at the ministry’s office in the capital, Aden.
The meeting discussed the organization’s initiatives, ways to enhance joint cooperation between the two sides, and the projects implemented by the organization, including animal health projects in the Socotra Archipelago.
Al-Soqatri expressed the Ministry’s keenness to work to overcome all the difficulties facing the organization’s work, calling for optimal exploitation of the projects it implements, expressing his appreciation for FAO’s efforts to mobilize the necessary support to implement a number of projects in the agricultural and fishery sectors.
He stressed the need to give greater attention to sustainable development projects, focus more broadly on the eastern governorates, support the institutional building of the ministry and its offices, and build the capabilities of the agricultural and fisheries sectors.
The meeting discussed the establishment of an agricultural research station and the implementation of valley protection projects on Socotra Island, in addition to targeting coffee growing areas with projects that contribute to increasing productivity.
For his part, Jadin revealed a number of projects scheduled to be launched through the organization during the coming period, explaining that the organization works mainly in the agricultural and fisheries sectors.
