Al-Yafei receives delegation from European Institute for Peace

At the Southern Media Authority's headquarters in the capital, Aden

Mukhtar Al-Yafei, Vice President of the Southern National Media Authority, received at the Authority’s headquarters in the capital, Aden, Mr. Jimmy Bouverie Blaidol, Director of the Middle East Program at the European Institute for Peace, and Mr. Thanos Petoris, Regional Advisor.

During the meeting, Al-Yafei stressed that based on the directives of President Aidarous Al-Zubaidi, the capital Aden and the rest of the southern governorates are witnessing high media and press freedom, and he pointed out that media and press institutions carry out their duties with complete freedom, in accordance with the regulations governing media work, and that no cases of arrests of journalists or media professionals outside the framework of the law or any attempts to suppress freedoms have been recorded.

He added: “We, at the Southern National Media Authority, maintain an ongoing relationship with all fellow journalists and media professionals, and hold periodic meetings with heads of local media outlets, correspondents of Arab and foreign newspapers, channels and agencies, and directors of media offices in Aden and the southern governorates, to exchange views and develop media work mechanisms in a way that enhances the rights and freedoms of media and press personnel.”

Al-Yafei also pointed out the importance of the role of the European Institute for Peace in supporting media professionals by organizing workshops, seminars, training and qualification courses, indicating the Authority’s readiness to cooperate in any direction that contributes to developing the skills and capabilities of media professionals in the south.

For his part, the European Institute for Peace delegation expressed its appreciation for the role played by the Southern National Media Authority in organizing media work in the capital, Aden, and the southern governorates, and openness to various media spectrums, in a way that enhances the spirit of initiative and diversity, and contributes to strengthening the culture of freedom of opinion and expression and serving the peace and stability process.
